Welcome to one of the friendliest cities in the UK, full of northern charm and people from all over. This city is big enough to never get bored, but not so big that you feel like you are missing out, and you can’t walk easily from point A to B like you would in London.
As a Manchester City lover and former local, it’s so easy to talk about it because there is a love there, but also a good education on the things to do that you, as a non-local, might not be aware of just yet.
Sit In Stevenson Square
Also known as the Northern Quarter, it is the busiest and most active drinking spot in Manchester, especially during the summer months. This spot catches most of the sun, and in famous British fashion, especially in cloudy and rainy Manchester, we follow the sun. It’s not only a great place to meet people but is a very safe space with countless options for food, drink and atmosphere.
You can also sit on the standalone blocks just to enjoy some sun and people-watching. This has to be one of the best people-watching spots, no matter the time of year, as it’s right where the action is and attracts so many types of characters that it leaves you wanting more from this spot.
Right in Stevenson Square, there is more than just food and drink; you are right on the doorstep of the comedy club ‘Creatures’, which usually has small-time comedians who are having a go to make you laugh. Some of the rooms are pretty cosy and provide a great spot to try something new, and who knows, you might have an absolute ball for less than a tenner.
The Arndale
Shopping in Manchester is great because it has pretty much everything, and while some people prefer the whole online shop for things like cargo pants, dresses and accessories since COVID, you can really see that the convenience of the Arndale can be so much better and prevents buying stuff you don’t actually like.
It’s got great food options to choose from mid-show, but it is also such an iconic staple of Manchester. You can also get a tram from the city centre to the other shopping centre in Manchester that is known for its stunning interior and design, the Trafford Centre, which is always such a magical experience for people who have never seen anything like it before.
Visit The Galleries and Museums
While this might seem BORING to some, trust me, as someone who likes to do chill everyday activities. The galleries and museums around Manchester hold some of the most interesting and stunning pieces that are both moving and also a part of Manchester’s history. I personally love to see art from the past, and if you are unsure if this is something for you, I would recommend at least trying the gallery that is near St. Peter’s Square.

Salford Quays
Salford Quays is a vibrant waterfront destination in Greater Manchester, offering a mix of attractions, activities, and cultural experiences, making it a great place to visit for a day out or a short break away from the city centre. It’s known for its modern architecture, waterfront views, proximity to venues like The Lowry and Imperial War Museum North, and opportunities for shopping and dining.
They host events here sometimes, including charity shop pop-ups, food pop-ups and little festivals for people from Manchester
Canal Street
Also known as the ‘Gay Village’, it is a spot that welcomes everyone; the strip is full of drag bars, clubs and after-night-out food spots to feed you after your night out. The LGBTQ+ scene in Manchester is one that is well celebrated and brings people together from all over the world, especially during Pride week in Manchester. It’s known as one of the best in the UK and for good reason: we are welcoming, have a fantastic drag scene and countless bars that cater to the scene, making LGBTQ+ people feel at home and giving them a place to dance the night away and meet like-minded people.
Is Manchester Worth Moving To?
With countless food spots available, the list really does go on, so a separate article would be more suitable for this. However, Manchester has several bars, clubs, activities and retail spots to choose from. If you are wondering if Manchester was the city for you, I can tell you there aren’t many that don’t feel this way for its character, charm and diversity.
